IDLE · waiting for input
Audio compression reduces bitrate and often sample rate, removing detail the ear is unlikely to miss in speech-heavy material. Podcasts, meeting recordings and course narration survive aggressive compression far better than dense music, because speech occupies a narrower frequency range.
Lowering bitrate from 320 kbps to 128 kbps roughly quarters the size. For mono voice, 64–96 kbps is often enough; stereo music below 128 kbps starts to sound dull. Always compare a short segment before compressing an entire archive.

How it works
- 01
Drop the file into the compression workspace and confirm the reported input size.
- 02
Move the quality, bitrate or resolution control and compare the estimated output size.
- 03
Run the job; the progress meter reports encoding stages and the final byte count.
- 04
Download the result, compare it with the original at 100% zoom, and publish only the version that still looks correct.

Frequently asked questions
What bitrate should I choose for speech?
Mono speech is usually transparent at 64–96 kbps with AAC or Opus, and acceptable at 96–128 kbps MP3. Music needs 160–256 kbps. Never re-compress an already lossy file repeatedly; keep one master copy.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The AUDIO file is decoded in this browser tab and the AUDIO output is created in memory. Nothing is sent to AIMP6 storage, and closing the tab removes the working data.
Can I convert several AUDIO files at once?
The image workspace accepts multiple files up to the browser memory limit; audio and video jobs run one file at a time because FFmpeg.wasm holds the whole stream in memory. Batch cloud processing is a Pro workflow.
